adhoc day 2! Kunstmuseum Basel, 8th November 2007

adhoc Day 2 Adhoc Day 2 Adhoc Day 2

Know-how, Technology, Innovation, Culture in all its forms and sharing have been the key concerns of adhoc since its foundation five years ago. It was time to celebrate together with our customers, partners, and friends adhoc’s 5th anniversary at the right place : the “Kunstmuseum Basel”, where all those concerns meet, cross and interact.

adhoc’s 5th Jubilee - a succession of revealing testimonies about five years of common experiences, projects, and hard work: Credit Suisse, Swiss life, CERN, Groupe Mutuel, Zürcher Kantonalbank, CA/Wily Introscope, CAPAF, Art & Performance, Guided tour, etc.

SOA Kongress in Mainz - 13-16th November 2007

Makram Hanin, together with Ingo Adler, Lead Architect Online Banking ZKB presented “Mapping Performance engineering best practices to conduct load and performance test for web services-based applications”.A case study about Application Performance, Performance-critical elements within Web applications, Performance Engineering Best Practices for Web applications. Download pdf.

Swiss CA DAY in Baden - 04th October 2007

Makram Hanin, together with Ingo Adler, Lead Architect Online Banking ZKB presented “Facing the coming challenges of Application Management for SOA environments: engineering best practices using Wily / CA Introscope” covering:

  • Agile business process requires agile IT solutions. Simple! Modifiability as the cost of making changes is the KEY.
  • Enterprise architects, application designers and technology providers answered with modularity, distributed computing middleware, object-oriented design, and portability etc... Rational! Reusability is the KEY... But more complex to manage... especially Performance.
  • Latest evolution SOA. Attractive! More modifiability, more reusability and Business proximity... resulting in increasing complexity to assure at the same time the performance.
  • The Trade-off between modifiability and performance in IT solutions architecture: before and after SOA.
  • Resulting requirements on engineering and application management technologies.
  • Key SOA-specific application management capabilities of web application management leader and J2EE monitoring pioneer Wily/CA Introscope.

Dr Nabil Ouerhani, together with Christian Parvex (Groupe Mutuel) presented “Introscope, the solution for performance diagnostic and production monitoring for GM's J2EE & SOA-based applications” covering:

  • With the aim to modernize its IT assets and infrastructure, Groupe Mutuel has taken the decision to migrate all its applications to J2EE and SOA based architectures, a huge challenge since over 30 businesses critical applications have to be developed, tested and deployed within a short period of time.
  • In order to master this challenge the IT department of GM has put in place processes, methodologies and the corresponding tools in order to assure the performance of these applications at each phase of the application lifecycle, from build/development to acceptance and production.
  • Introscope has been chosen by Groupe Mutuel to be the tool for measuring the applicative but also platform performance metrics that allows an objective assessment of the application performance and robustness both in test environments and production.
  • adhoc PES has accompanied GM from the tool evaluation and acquisition phase, to its set up on all GM environments and its exploitation for assuring the performance of all J2EE/SOA based applications.

During this presentation, the GM actors and the adhoc consultant talked about their common experience with Introscope. A fruitful and concluding experience in which Introscope played a central role to significantly improve the performance and thus the quality of the deployed applications, which instantaneously translated to clearly observable end user satisfaction. Introscope Roadshows Geneva / Zürich

As Wily/CA Best EMEA Parnter, adhoc PES is always participating to the related events in Switzerland, and sometimes in Germany. This year two case-studies were presented, both in Geneva and in Zürich:

  • “Why did we choose Wily Introscope as life cycle solution to enable our performance engineering services?” Download pdf.
  • “Mapping Performance Engineering Best Practices to SOA and Web Services Applications”

Compuware “Agentless” Event in Baden, 30.08.2007

Within this event, “End User Performance Experience Monitoring in large enterprise environments - Bringing the customer in the engineering focus” was presented by Makram Hanin. Download pdf.

Jazoon 07 - 23-26th June in Zürich

The tutorial dealt with all “Performance Assurance” aspects for J2EE Applications.
It introduced key approaches and proven best practices to assure J2EE Applications Performance along the whole life cycle. Following items represented a subset of the topics handled during this tutorial:

  • Capturing, modeling and adapting Performance requirements in the J2EE context
  • Assuring Performance requirements during the architecture & design phase
  • Component-based Performance Testing
  • Keys to assure Performance after assembly and integration (profiling, byte code injection, etc.)
  • J2EE Applications-Centric Measurement and Monitoring (ACMM)

CAPAF Pre-launch event 07th June in Basel

This pre-launch event gathered those people interested in taking actively part in the capaf project.
Its aim was the presentation of capaf's vision, its mandate, but also debating the actual content of the community platform.
CAPAF, Composite Applications Performance Assurance Forum. The CAPAF idea envisioned people with different backgrounds, knowledge and experiences communicating freely with each other about common interests and central subject matters: performance assurance, service-oriented architectures and composite (complex, distributed) applications.

How?

By creating and encouraging a community platform, allowing the sharing of knowledge, know how and experiences, inciting debate and thus the creation and leverage of a rich “’collective brain”’.

Testing & Finance, 19th June in Bonn

Dr Nabil Ouerhani presented “Load & Performance Test Engineering for composite applications: Challenges, Key principles & Best Practices”. Download pdf.
